I was inspired by this CNNMoney Side Hustle Series to discuss ways folks are adding to their income. In addition toways to make extra cash, it seems my readers are really interested in “How to Get Rich,” as illustrated by my 2 most popular posts this month:
14 Traits of the Rich, How Many do You Have?
Get Rich, Develop 4 Wealth Habits
The ways to make extra cash are only limited by your imagination and those that amass wealth over their lives are regularly thinking about creative ways to make more money. In fact, spend some time brainstorming and I’m sure you will come up with a few yourself. Here are some of the ways I’ve made some extra cash over the years:
- Sold Avon

- Sold books
- Invested in real estate
- Lemonade stand (well, haven’t tried this one in a few years
) - Career Counselor
- Blogger
- Garage Sale
- Author
- Sold on Craig’s list
- Taught English in Spain
- Made and sold hippy shirts
- Invested in dividend paying assets
For those creative types, Etsy offers a great opportunity to make some extra cash. In fact, a friend of mine has an adorable shop, Never Ending Knits. She showcases her knitted products and offers them for sale. It’s like having your own online store, only much easier. If you’re in the market for some knit wear, or want to see a college student’s side hustle, stop by Amy’s shop!

I loved investing in income property. It earns money and shelters a portion of the income. I owned a few businesses that sheltered income as well. Earning money and feferring taxes is a win/win!

Have you heard of 31 Gifts? It’s the new Avon that’s taking the US by storm and instead of makeup it’s bags and totes that can be personalized. Some are fairly cute, but it’s overpriced in my opinion.

Blogging is my side hustle. I loved writing in high school, but it fell my the wayside as I moved into college and out into the real world. I just sort of fell back into it by answering a post in the user community of my debt management company.

Hippie T-Shirts. That’s great. Reminds me of when a friend and I partnered to make candles and sell them at a local market for extra cash. We didn’t make much money but the experience was priceless.
I always consider the money from my side-husltes to be “get ahead money” and I save most of it. The great thing about extra money is that it doesn’t have to go for bills or food, so it’s very easy to save.

I own my townhouse and rent out the individual room even though I can make the payments without the extra income from the roommates.
It’s a great way to make money for sure.

My favorite ways to make extra money is by blogging, pet sitting, and renting my room out on Airbnb. I’ve never been one for selling my stuff. For some reason, I feel like it’s such a hassle. I usually donate it to the thrift store and move on. Maybe I should reconsider since so many others have had success selling things on eBay and Craigslist.
Shawanda @ You Have More Than You Think recently posted..Menu Plan Money ~ “Hello, Discipline!” Edition
Hi Shawanda, I totally get your feelings about selling stuff. I only sell the really big stuff on craigs list. Otherwise, I donate…. and take a tax deduction!
Don’t think the lemonade stands work any more. I’ve heard of at least 5 stories of cops closing down these little kid’s stands.
