I’m a bit out of whack since the change in the astrological signs. I’ve been a water loving Cancer my whole life and now, all of a sudden, I’m a Gemini. What’s up with that? In fact, while watching a morning news show, one of the anchors declared, “I’m sticking with my old astrological sign no matter what. I don’t care what the new sign is!” I know how she feels! :)

These were my CANCER traits:

  • Dependable
  • Adaptable
  • Loyal
  • Caring
  • Responsive

Here are my GEMINI traits:

  • Energetic
  • Clever
  • Witty
  • Adaptable
  • Imaginative

Does this mean my core personality has changed? I’m going to have to sit with this and figure out what it all means for ME.

If the astrological signs, devised 3000 years ago can change, then anything can change. For those of you who track your net worth, don’t you feel great when the number goes up? What about when it goes down? Not so much. And of course, for you bloggers out there, when your Alexa ranking drops a few points, there’s a hint of disappointment as well.

Change is a constant. Nothing stays the same. In money, realize that progress in an upward direction toward your financial goals is important. That means sometimes your net worth will go down. Change and progress are never constant. The trick to financial wealth is controlling the things you can, and letting go of the things you can’t.

You can control only your own financial actions:

  • Transfer money from your paycheck into a savings account.
  • Participate in your workplace retirement fund.
  • Hold a diversified portfolio of stock and bond investments in your long term accounts.
  • Build up an emergency fund.

Those steps are in your control. In the long run, positive financial actions will lead to financial success.

In the short run, there will be changes; ups and downs. It may be a recession, a geopolitical event, a housing crisis, or even a tenant from hell. Macro economic forces are out of your control; just like the changing astrological signs.

Focus on what is in your control and dismiss the rest.

Has your astrological sign changed? How are you coping?

Get a notebook and label it: “(your name) Personal Finance” and keep it by the computer. Use it for all of your personal finance goals, thoughts, activities, and plans.

  • Today, review your financial goals. Make sure you are doing what you can to create a wealthy future.
  • Don’t let the astrological signs determine your behavior. Take the reigns of your life and take one step to make your life better today.

  1. I’m not sure if my sign changed; I was always an Aries on the cusp of a Taurus. So maybe I’m not a Pisces on the cusp of an Aries? I’m not sure.

As for your connection with personal finance, you’re right. As long as you’re moving in the right direction towards saving for the future and financial freedom, the little ups and downs shouldn’t be too terribly disasterous. (okay, why is this suffix not working on this word!?)

  2. Hi Little House, Even though it’s true that change is a constant, I always appreciate reminders to that affect. You better run and check your sign, to find out trai the status of your personal traits :).

  3. Congratulations! My sign did change, but I am sticking with my old one. I take your statement about financial goals a step further. I can only control my actions! So far, I have done pretty well.

  4. Current sign Pisces
    1) intuitive, perhaps even psychic – helpful with finances!!
    2) dreamer – very, very true

    New sign aquarius
    1) unconventional – true
    2) friendly – true
    3) stubborn – very, very true!!

Perhaps I’m more of an aquarius anyway!

    Good fun post Barb :)

  6. Heck, my sign did change to that new fangled new one. But anyway I never took notice till now. Things change your right. But one thing never changes, your great advice. Keep up the good work.

  7. @Krantscents-I think I’ll follow your lead and stick with my old one as well. This is something I don’t need to change! :)

  10. Bah! I’ll stick with my chinese zodiac. :)

    January 21, 2011

  11. It made a lot of people confused because of the changes on zodiac signs. It’s a little frustrating because some people based their moods or characteristic based on what they read on their signs. So I guess people should be able to adapt to their new signs.

    Gemini Traits

  12. @Retire, That’s one way to handle it!
@Gemini-You’re perspective of adaptation is probably a sound one! Although, there’s probably a bit more to life than one’ zodiac sign :)

    January 24, 2011

  13. I thought this only affected newborns? Anyway, this seems like such a major change as I’m not sure how people can continue to take this seriously. I’m barely still a Virgo, whereas before I was almost a Libra. 😉

    February 1, 2011

  14. @Kevin, IMHO, I doubt that most people take this too seriously. After all, who do you know that governs their behavior by checking their horoscope?
