When fears, and reasons not to start creep in, and they always do, ignore the negative voice that is screaming; what if you fail, what if you can’t do it, what if it’s a waste of time, what if it’s a waste of money. Set the goals and get started.
Our last garage sale was in 2003, when we moved from our former home. At that time I swore I would never hold another yard sale. Seven and a half years later, I gave in.
Multiply these headaches with the number of new devices you purchase. Our family is probably on the lower end of electronic device consumption, or at least in the middle range. Yet, without fail, be it a new DVD player, Wii console or anything electronic, there is a large time commitment to getting and keeping it running. This is not my opinion, it is a fact.
I never seem to get ahead. As soon as I complete one task, there are 3 more to take its place. Fortunately, I’ve simplified my finances by sticking to a solid index based asset allocation plan. But, the simplification in one area is counteracted in another……I may have added to my responsibilities by taking on another job (teaching Corporate Finance to MBA students)
I was going to be the primary breadwinner for 4 years, and I had NO JOB.
I was so stressed that I remember looking at the grocery clerk in awe and thinking, “Even she has a job!”
It’s no secret that persistence is a fundamental trait of success. How many times have you embarked on a new pursuit or a project only to give up after awhile because results aren’t forthcoming? Clearly, without persistence and tenacity, success is impossible.
That article got me thinking. I pondered whether to disclose my no fail system for completing my New Year’s Resolutions or not. In fact, I happen to be a complete success at the New Year’s Resolution endeavor. How do I do it?
I Don’t Make New Year’s Resolutions
Another tenet of mine is to live in accord with your values. That means spend your most precious resource, time, in the way that affords you the most pleasure and reward possible.
I have been reading the 31 Days to a Better Blog (obviously, I’m a bit behind schedule.) for about 5 months now and one of the assignments is to solve a problem for the reader. Although, I of hope that my entire site is solving problems for the readers, I am taking the CHALLENGE.
