TIME VERSUS MONEY

A quick google search, “time v money” turned up 6.3 BILLION results. Obviously, I’m not the only one thinking about this topic. In fact, it looks like billions of individuals are dealing with these same quandries.

WEALTH AND ECONOMICS; Community versus Country Club

I’ve played tennis forever, on a variety of courts from public to private, in metro city areas to elite private clubs. I confess, I hate the atmosphere at most of the courts; snooty, exclusive, might I even say a bit racist, classist, and sexist. (There I said it!)

WHAT WOULD YOU DO? TIPS TO MAKE SMART MONEY CHOICES

She repeatedly asks herself, “Do I really need it?” Well, of course she doesn’t need it, but there is no logical reason not to treat herself to the jewelry. Unfortunately, even after making the plunge and purchasing the beautiful bracelet, she continues to be racked with guilt and worries that she spent too much.

DO YOU REALLY NEED A ROLEX?

A friend of mine, Sharlene really wants a Rolex watch. I think they cost about $10,000. (I’m not sure as I’ve never priced one and don’t want to spend my time checking!) In fact, that is one of her important GOALS. I am not sure why she wants one but if I had to guess, I assume she equates owning a Rolex with wealth, status, and prestige.

Is Holding a Garage Sale Worth it?

Our last garage sale was in 2003, when we moved from our former home. At that time I swore I would never hold another yard sale. Seven and a half years later, I gave in.

How Much Money do YOU Need to Live On?

Yet, I rarely explore the philosophical aspects of money. After all, the only real value in money is what you can trade it for. If you were stuck out in the dessert with no water and $500.00, what good would money be? If you had no transportation and the water was 100 miles away, your $500.00 would be worthless. You’d probably we willing to trade it all for a thermos of water.

How Preconceived Ideas Can Cost You

Many many folks believe that what you drive and wear is a measure of wealth. If someone is driving a BMW or Mercedes and wearing designer clothes, then they are wealthy. The Millionaire Next Door slams that theory down! In fact, frequently, those with ostentacious signs of external wealth carry high debt levels and tally a low net worth!

WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY; Is This You?

I am 99% certain these two are headed for the car, where in lieu of putting on their coats, they will crank up the heat. These are the same folks who are too lazy to walk into the fast food joint and would rather wait 15 minutes in a long line, motor running, for their hamburger and fries.

MLK Day: Make a Difference Today

I am committed to serving others, particularly through increasing financial literacy. In fact, that was an initial motivation to begin Barbara Friedberg Personal Finance. But, like most of you out there I have a selfish side too. If I can serve two purposes simultaneously, I’m all in. Help others and save time right here, right now!

Why I’m Happy with a $500 Car Repair Bill

Our family keeps our cars as long as possible. My car is a 1998 model and El Carino has the newer 2003. Mentally, when I got the information about the repairs I immediately considered how much cheaper a $500 repair is than the expenses I would have in purchasing a new car.

Which would you prefer, $500 unexpected bill or 20,000 to 30,000 dollars for a new car plus higher insurance premiums, fees, taxes, and immediate depreciation?
